About Helen
Helen trained in performance and musicology at Sydney Conservatorium and the University of Sydney and has held academic positions at both these institutions as well as the Queensland Conservatorium.
A serial Founding Director, Helen has established the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, The International Academy of Music in Bangkok and the Queensland Conservatorium Music School for gifted young musicians.
Other Asian experience includes International Examiner at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and visiting professorial positions in two Thai universities.
Helen established the first professional chamber orchestra in regional Australia, and has created festivals, performance tours and conferences. She has produced major works of music theatre, dance, drama and opera.
Her research in the fields of leadership, cultural policy, higher music education, and distance education is recognized and published internationally. She is an Adjunct Member of the Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre.
Ministerial appointments include policy design and funding for the arts in Queensland and gifted education in Thailand. She was Deputy Chair of the Board of the Queensland Festival and is currently a Director on the Board of the Australian Music Centre, a member of the Music Council of Australia, and a member of the Council of the Music Teachers Association of Queensland.
Currently freelancing, Helen is establishing the National Australian Musical Instrument Bank for the Music Council of Australia and is Artistic Administrator for the Noosa Federation of the Arts.
